How to make your Facebook page posts reach more people

Thursday 29 August 2013
Have you asked yourself why you have thousands  or millions of fans on your facebook page but your posts only reach a few people? This could happen regardless of how interesting your post is. Why?

By now you probably know that facebook has an algorithm in place to decide which content appears on your fan's timeline or news feed. Obviously most of your fans are not checking out your page and the only way they will see your posts is through their news feed or on their timelines.

So the question am trying to answer is, How do you make your page posts appear on your fans timeline?

The first thing we need to understand is that Facebook is a social platform and not an advertising network. It therefore pays more attention posts that look social. The whole idea is to avoid posting links as links. Sometimes the Facebook algorithm ignores links because it wants to maintain the social aspect of the platform. Every time you want to post a link on Facebook page, instead of posting the link, upload a large sized picture and include the link in the description of the picture.

I have recently switched my posting style from link-only to picture+link on the Tech Blog page and the increase in viewership was dramatic.

Facebook only displays the first three lines of a picture description so its a good idea to place the link at the beginning of the picture description.
